Anjo

Anjo knows whose birthday is coming and what they actually want: your friends' wishlists and timely reminders, all while keeping your data private.

PROJECT

Never stress over a gift again

Anjo is an app for wishlists and birthdays. You create a wishlist and share it with your friends, and they share theirs with you. Anjo finds the friends in your contacts who use the app too, and reminds you of their birthday in time, also for anniversaries and other special days. So you know whose birthday is coming and what they actually want.

Our own product, from app to backend

Anjo is Byrt's own product. I build all of it: the iOS and Android app, the backend and the anjo.gift website. You search for products from bol.com and Coolblue right inside the app. Anjo is free and has no ads. When someone buys a gift through a wishlist link, Anjo earns a small affiliate fee. The buyer pays the same price.

Privacy by design

You sign in with your phone number and an SMS code. The database holds no phone numbers, not even those from your address book, only a fingerprint of each (HMAC-SHA256 with a separate key). Names from your contacts never leave your phone. The app has no ad networks and no analytics, and your data is never sold.

TECHNOLOGY

The app, backend, and website are built with the following technologies

App

Kotlin Multiplatform with Compose Multiplatform: one shared UI for iOS and Android. Reminders are local notifications on the device itself.

Backend

Rust with Axum, SeaORM and PostgreSQL, with Valkey as a cache. Search results from bol.com and Coolblue are merged by EAN barcode.

Website

anjo.gift runs on the same stack as this site: Rust, Axum and Maud, with HTMX and Tailwind CSS.
